This was a hard page to plan out. Mostly because it all takes place on a boat so it was tough to keep things interesting. Boats are boring really, and if anyone tells you otherwise they’re either lying or they’re rich. Either way, right?

I found an old document that has some of my original ideas for the structure of Floatillion. Some of it is heavily outdated, but some of it survives in the current version. I’ve removed the parts that could be considered spoilers. This document also refers to the town they are in as Floatillion. This is outdated now, the town in the story is called Carefree, Arizona. I was trying to shoehorn the word Floatillion into the story at that early point, but eventually decided against it. It is what it is, a portmanteau of the words “float” and “million,” which I felt sounded cool and ominous together. Also, I have no idea what the reference to multiple cult leaders is about. Anyway here’s your bonus content and stuff:

Structure: This comic is structured like a human memory, with one memory transitioning into another. It is presented as Mask Boy’s thoughts as he is being _____ by Astrid. There are two types of memories, memories of life, and memories of dreams and daydreams, sometimes it might not be clear which is which. And though the thoughts flow into each other in an organic way, the story is separated into three parts, just as there are three rivers. The first part deals mostly with the regular day to day life of the trio at the community. The second part deals mostly with Mask Boys inner life, and his dreams and daydreams, while the trio is beginning to realize that something is up. The third part deals with the end of the world, and follows the trio as they are _________ Floatillion through the _________ that surrounds it. Each part has its own colors, its own focus and mood, its own cult leader, its own song even. But just as the rivers flow into each other, so do the parts of the story.

Setting: The story takes place in multiple locations, but there are really two main ones. The first is the town they live in, called Floatillion, which is really a place similar to Jonestown, with The Church of Three Rivers in place of The People’s Temple, and Astrid in place of Jim Jones. The second setting is the _____ that the trio ________, _________ Floatillion and the areas immediately surrounding it are tropical. ___________. A third setting, if it can be considered a setting, is Mask Boy’s fantasy world, which is really just Floatillion through a skewed lens.
Floatillion resembles a 50’s suburb. The houses are in a 50’s suburban style, and so is the home dress of the members- there are separate jumpsuits that serve as work dress. Each family is a nuclear unit, and every family wears the same colors as each other. The major activity of the day, other than work, is a radio broadcast by Astrid, from her Radio Room. The radios in every home are similar to the one Mask Boy has, but only have one dial- volume. Changing the frequency is impossible.
The project that Astrid has all the cult members working on is ROTOR, which is intended to __________.

An odd weekend prevented me from getting this shaded on time. I’m almost as bad as some Floatillion pages! HAHAHAHAHAHA

abred is my favorite character in comminuty. hes so smart and wow what a guy. i knew someone who remdins me of troy but he wasnt really all that much like tro anyway. he looked like him thogh. imagien having a friend like troy or abaed.

I went to summer camp as a kid a few times. We never did anything like this but one time we talked about girls and stuff so it’s kinda the same.

This was actually the first thing I drew for Nice Guy. I didn’t plan on doing a prelude originally but I wanted to go into a little bit of history about the world. Hopefully I made the right decision. Have a great day.
